FEYENOORD STAR MAKES TRANSFER ADMISSION AMID LIVERPOOL LINKS - "I'M WAITING"

Feyenoord forward Igor Paixao has teased that he would be open to joining his old boss, Arne Slot, at Liverpool this summer.

Paixao, 24, was one of Feyenoord's top performers last year as they won the Dutch Cup under Slot, who has since succeeded Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

The Brazilian plundered 12 goals in all competitions for the Eredivisie outfit and has been linked with a transfer ahead of the new season. Fans on social media have tipped him to follow in Slot's footsteps - and he didn't exactly shoot down the idea in an interview with Globo Esporte.

Paixao said: "I only see this on social media. (The fans) don't want me to leave Feyenoord, but it doesn't depend on me. Together with my agents and the board of directors we will decide the best path to follow.

"I’m listening and watching on social media. A lot of people are always tagging me and asking: are you going to Liverpool? I don’t know anything, I’m just waiting. But Dutch football is really cool. The intensity is what makes it different."

When he was asked about his relationship with Slot, he added: "He also helped me when I arrived, in my development, and I felt like I was helping him. It's good that everything worked out. He did an exceptional job with our squad. I just have to thank him and wish him success at Liverpool. He will be missed, but he has to keep working."

While Paixao is more than aware of the speculation touting him for a reunion with his old boss, it remains to be seen if Liverpool have any genuine interest in bringing him to Anfield.

The Reds have not yet opened the chequebook for a signing since the arrival of Slot and the club's new sporting director, Richard Hughes, although they are expected to strengthen in the window.

It emerged on Saturday that the Reds had been offered the chance to sign Anthony Gordon with Newcastle scrambling to comply with the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules before June 30.

Liverpool do hold an interest in the England winger, 23, however, talks broke down once it became clear that Newcastle wanted Jarell Quansah to move in the opposite direction as part of an ambitious swap deal.
