MIKA STOJSAVLJEVIC HEADING BACK TO REALITY AFTER US OPEN TRIUMPH AS 15-YEAR-OLD BRIT RETURNS TO SCHOOL

Winning a Grand Slam is one way to end the summer holidays, but its back to the grindstone and into Year 11 for Mika Stojsavljevic now.

‘I’m flying back on Sunday and then going back to school,’ said the 15-year-old, who won the girls title at the US Open, the first British winner since Heather Watson in 2009. 

‘I have my GCSEs this year and obviously it’s important to get those done.’

Stojsavljevic, from Ealing in West London, studies at Loughborough Amhurst School, which has ties to the LTA National Academy where she trains.

Asked how her fellow pupils will react to her success, she replied: ‘In our set-up, it’s only tennis players in our classroom. 

'They have these really small classrooms to make sure it’s just focused on us.

‘So I think it will be easier just being with tennis people, but around school it might be a little bit different.’

Asked which players she admired growing up, 6ft tall Stojsavljevic said: ‘Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic have always been my idols.
