There is no VAR in the Championship and that was good news for Norwich City on Saturday.

Borja Sainz scored a controversial goal to give the Canaries a 1-0 lead away at Derby County just before half-time in one of the early kick-offs.

The goal helped Norwich on their way to a 3-2 win as they recorded back-to-back victories for the first time since March.

Sainz found the net with a clever flicked finish following a low cross from Josh Sargent, but the goal should not have stood because the ball had clearly gone out of play before the USA international had kicked it.

At least it was clear after watching a replay, but the officials at Pride Park were not afforded that luxury.

Several Derby players, many of whom had been much closer to the ball than the officials, were visibly furious.

They surrounded referee Oliver Langford, who looked a little helpless as the home fans began to boo and jeer.

To anger the home supporters even more, Sainz celebrated by performing a shushing gesture.

Craig Forsyth equalised for Derby on the hour-mark but Sainz then netted twice more to complete his hat-trick.

Corey Taylor scored a late consolation goal for Derby, who had boasted a perfect home record this season prior to Saturday's contentious defeat.
