LIVERPOOL NEWS: REDS FACE RUBEN AMORIM COMPETITION AS SUMMER TRANSFER PLANS IMPACTED

Liverpool earned a big victory at the weekend to keep their Premier League title challenge alive.

The Reds now sit behind current leaders Arsenal due to their inferior goal difference. Strikes from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota were enough to see off Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Liverpool now have five games remaining to potentially give outgoing boss Jurgen Klopp the perfect Anfield send-off. On the topic of replacing the German, the Reds remain on the lookout for his successor.

Work is still underway to identify his successor and seal a deal. Take a look at all of the headlines coming out of Anfield over the past 24 hours.

Liverpool hit with Amorim blow

Liverpool could potentially lose out on the services of Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim, with a Premier League rival now interested. According to reports, West Ham have held exploratory talks to potentially recruit him.

The Hammers have identified him as a potential replacement for current boss, David Moyes, who sees his own contract expire at the end of the season. The former Man United boss has previously claimed that he has received the offer of a new deal at the London Stadium.

Amorim is not the only option for West Ham. It is reported that ex-Wolves head coach Julen Lopetegui has also been looked at by the East London side. Technical director Tim Steidten is leading the hunt for a potential successor is leading the search for a new manager should Moyes be cut adrift.

Transfer plans impacted

Sticking with Liverpool’s search for a new manager, it is unfortunately having a knock-on effect on the rest of the club. It is suggested that any transfer plans have been put on pause until a successor is named.

Real Madrid star Ferland Mendy is reportedly already a target for the Reds, whose future with the Spanish side looking uncertain. However, a move will not be pursued at the current stage.

Liverpool want a new manager in situ before pursuing Mendy any further. That could potentially see a move fall apart, with Real Madrid hoping to take advantage and commit him to a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alexander Arnold follows Klopp instruction

Back to the Premier League title race, Trent Alexander-Arnold has found form at the perfect time. And that coincides with a specific tactical instruction from boss Klopp.

Speaking after the win against Fulham, the defender said: “The more and more I’m playing in the middle of the pitch, the more pressure and the more tight and compact I find it.

“So the manager has told me and the team to drop out of the block, try to get on the ball and get up the field that way, whether it’s driving with the ball or passing it over the top. It’s just trying to get on the ball as much as possible and trying to make things happen from deep and create.”
