The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has got its three playoff sides after the Delhi Capitals versus Gujarat Titans (DC vs GT) game on Sunday. The Titans won the match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium by ten wickets in 19 overs while chasing 200 runs to win. Sai Sudharsan (108*) and Shubman Gill (93*) ensured that GT not only went top of the table but also qualified for the playoffs.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) had beaten Rajasthan Royals (RR) by ten runs in the earlier game of the day. That win was enough to take PBKS to 17 points with two matches left in the season. Batting first, PBKS reached 219 on the board thanks to fifties by Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh. In reply, RR fell short of the target despite fifties from Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Thanks to GT’s win, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are also through to the playoffs. Rajat Patidar and his side, just like PBKS, have 17 points from 12 games. RCB’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders was washed out on Saturday and both sides got a point each. With three teams going through, there is just one spot left and the race is between the three sides that still have a chance to make it to the top four.
3 – Lucknow Super Giants – Three games left
LSG play Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday at the Ekana Stadium and have to win their next three matches to reach 16 points. LSG also will have to hope that Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals don’t win more than one game in their final two games of the season. If LSG fail to win on Monday, then they will also be knocked out, as they can finish with a maximum of 14 points, and it won’t be enough to make it to the playoffs.
2- Delhi Capitals – Two games left
With 13 points from 12 games, Delhi Capitals have no choice but to win both their games. This will take DC to 17 points from 14 games and assure them a place in the IPL 2025 playoffs, beating the Mumbai Indians to the post. If DC lose their next match to MI, then it will end their hopes of making it to the playoffs. Even if Delhi beat Punjab in their final game, they will only have 15 points.
1- Mumbai Indians – Two games left
The task for Mumbai Indians is simple: firstly, they have to hope that LSG loses to Hyderabad on Monday night. Then the five-time winners will have to beat Delhi at home on Wednesday to make it to 16 points with a game to play. These two results will mean that MI can safely assure themselves a spot in the playoffs. In case MI loses to DC, then they have to beat Punjab in their final game of the season. Mumbai will also have to hope that PBKS can beat DC in their encounter in Jaipur. This will mean that MI will have 16 points and DC will end on 15 points, ruling the Capitals out of the playoff race.
