HOW MUCH ANDY MURRAY AND EMMA RADUCANU CAN WIN WITH WIMBLEDON DOUBLES VICTORY

Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu could land £130,000 if they clinch victory in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon.

The British Grand Slam victors are joining forces to make a powerful team at the All England Club, likely marking Murray's last appearance at SW19.

They face Marcelo Arevalo and Zhang Shuai on Friday, July 5, when the mixed doubles commences in the first round. Murray, 37, is also contending in the men's doubles with his brother Jamie. They meet Rinky Hijikata and John Peers on Thursday night.

Murray has enjoyed previous success in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon, having partnered up with Serena Williams in 2019. He also bagged an Olympic silver medal with the now-retired Laura Robson at the 2012 London Olympics.

The prize money being offered for the mixed doubles winners at Wimbledon totals £130,000 - a £2k increase from last year's total, won by Lyudmyla Kichenok and Mate Pavic.

While two-time Wimbledon champion Murray hopes to have a long run in what's anticipated to be his final appearance at the Grand Slam, his inability to recover fully post spinal cyst surgery ruled him out of the men's single's tournament. He was due to face Tomas Machac in the first round before being forced to pull out.

Despite his hard work to take part in the singles, Murray admitted that he was not at a stage where he could give it his 100%. However, he admitted it was a tough call, saying: "It wasn't a clearcut decision on the singles."

Giving some insight into his decision-making process, Murray said: "I obviously thought long and hard about it. I practised a few sets of singles and did well in those practices. I certainly wasn't moving as I would like. But it was still able to be really competitive and it was just whether or not I was comfortable going out there and maybe not feeling like I was able to give my 100 per cent."

Speaking on the difference between singles and doubles games, he added: "Doubles is a slightly different game in terms of the physicality of it and yeah I am looking forward to that."

Raducanu, who will now team up with Murray at SW19, praised the Scottish star after her first round win in the singles competition against Renata Zarazua on Monday.

"I would say, like, the biggest standout thing for me was when he lost in the final here of Wimbledon, then came back a month later and won the Olympics," remarked the 21-year-old star.

"I think that to get through six really difficult rounds, then lose in the final, then to play a month later and be in the final again, your mind, without you realising, just runs like deja vu scenarios. I made it to the final."

Touching upon the advice she has received from Murray, Raducanu shared: "I think the biggest advice is just how he's always taken care of his operations, how he manages his people. I haven't really spoken to him so much. I think for me it's just like watching him operate day to day, watching him be absolutely on it with everything. Even in practice now, he's so on it to the minute."

"I think me, when I was a bit younger maybe, showing up 15 minutes before practice to do a few arm curls, swing my hand around and warm up, he's there for an hour and a half doing treatment. He just sets really good examples."
