U.S. OPEN GOLF SCORES, RESULTS, HIGHLIGHTS FROM SATURDAY'S ROUND 3 AS BRYSON DECHAMBEAU TAKES LEAD

Bryson DeChambeau is on top of the field. And given the struggles golfers have had at Pinehurst No. 2 through the first three rounds, his three-stroke lead heading into the final day feels like a decent advantage.

LIVE: Follow U.S. Open leaderboard updates from Round 4

DeChambeau went 3 under in the third round of the 2024 U.S. Open to propel himself to 7 under for the tournament. The only golfer to post a better third round than DeChambeau on Saturday was Collin Morikawa, who went 4 under to pull up to even par.

Yet while DeChambeau has the three-stroke advantage, it is far from a guarantee he'll run away with his second U.S. Open title. Rory McIlroy and Matthieu Pavon each went 1 under Saturday, while Patrick Cantlay was even, creating a three-way tie at second at 4 under for the tournament.

And given how tricky the course has been, a blow-up can happen at any point. Three golfers were more than 10 over on Saturday as Jackson Suber (11 over), Gunnar Broin (11 over) and Kim Seong-hyeon (13 over) all experienced meltdowns to fall well back of 1 over, 3 over and 1 over, respectively.

The Sporting News tracked all the scores and highlights from Round 3 of the U.S. Open on Saturday. Follow along with updates and the leaderboard below.

U.S. Open live updates, highlights from Saturday's Round 3

(All times Eastern)

8:04 p.m. — And Aberg ends the third round of the U.S. Open by making his putt for par to stay tied for fifth.

8:03 p.m. — DeChambeau ends his day at 7 under. He'll head into Sunday with a three stroke lead.

7:51 p.m. — Cantlay misses his putt for birdie on the 18th, and he'll have to settle for finishing his day tied for second at 4 under with a large pack of the rest of the field.

7:49 p.m. — Sensational putt by DeChambeau as he sinks his sixth birdie of the day and moves back to a three stroke advantage on Saturday.

7:32 p.m. — It's looking like it will be DeChambeau and Pavon in the final pairing tomorrow.

7:21 p.m. — DeChambeau's lead grows to FOUR as McIlroy bogeys No. 17. This entire event has quickly turned in his favor.

7:17 p.m. — Aberg bounces back with a birdie on No. 14. He's still five strokes off the lead, but it's a much-needed step for the 24-year-old.

7:15 p.m. — That's another birdie for DeChambeau, who just barely gets a putt to go on No. 14. He now has a three-stroke lead, and the crowd is absolutely loving it.

7:06 p.m. — Aberg triple-bogeys No. 13, so his hopes of a first career major win might be dashed. He entered the day as the leader but now sits five strokes off the lead.

7:00 p.m. — Just like that, McIlroy bogeys No. 15 and DeChambeau's lead is back to two.

6:55 p.m. — Are we going to get a DeChambeau-McIlroy final pairing tomorrow? McIlroy is alone in second at 6-under.

6:33 p.m. — Finau triple-bogeys No. 13, and that's going to send him SIX strokes off the lead. It was only 45 minutes ago that he was tied for a share of the lead.

6:27 p.m. — DeChambeau now leads by two strokes. Looks like he's healthy.

6:13 p.m. — DeChambeau is the sole leader...and he's getting his hip worked on between holes. He's dealing with ligament tightness, according to the broadcast, but it hasn't affected his game yet.

5:48 p.m. — Pavon misses a putt at No. 11 and slips out of sole possession of the lead. Finau, Aberg, Pavon and DeChambeau are all even at 5-under.

5:23 p.m. — And now Finau comes up with a birdie to pull within a stroke of the lead. Pavon remains in front, but DeChambeau and Finau are putting pressure on him with Aberg also lingering at 5-under.

5:20 p.m. — Bryson DeChambeau is starting to feel it, as he birdies No. 7 to pull back within one stroke of the lead. That's his second birdie in his last three holes.

4:52 p.m. — Mathieu Pavon takes the lead!

4:26 p.m. — Matthieu Pavon sinks a short birdie putt on No. 5 and moves back to a stroke off the lead, while Hatton bogeys No. 6 and falls to 3-under after his terrific start today.

4:21 p.m. — Aberg sinks a beautiful 28-foot putt on No. 3 to extend his lead to two. What a shot.

4:12 p.m. — Wow, Tyrrell Hatton posts an eagle at No. 5 and moves to 4-under for the week. He's suddenly one stroke off the lead.

4:00 p.m. — McIlroy birdies the third hole and slides back within a stroke of the lead, pulling even with DeChambeau, Pavon and Finau.

3:57 p.m. — Detry has quickly tumbled down the leaderboard, as he just double-bogeyed No. 2 after a bogey on No. 1. He's dropped to 1-under on the week.

3:47 p.m. — Detry and Cantlay both bogey the first hole, which makes par for Aberg and DeChambeau at the hole even more meaningful. That knocks Detry and Cantlay two strokes off the lead.

3:39 p.m. — Finau birdies a tough No. 2 hole and makes it FIVE players sitting at 4-under, just behind Aberg,

3:34 p.m. — DeChambeau and Aberg are teeing off right now.

3:12 p.m. — The top of the leaderboard is starting to tee off, and Matthieu Pavon sinks a big-time birdie on No. 1 to move back within a stroke of the lead. Aberg has four players chasing him at 4-under.

2:45 p.m. — Sam Bennett is off to a nice start with two birdies through his first five holes. Bennett is four strokes off the lead.

2:18 p.m. — We're starting to get some borderline contenders on the course, and Russell Henley notably posts a birdie at No. 1 to move to 1-under.

2:05 p.m. — Scottie Scheffler finishes 1-over on the day, bringing himself to 6-over for the week.

1:40 p.m. — It's Neal Shipley's world right now, as the amateur rattles off three consecutive birdies to move to 3-under on the day and even par for the tournament. He's tied for 16th on the leaderboard.

12:35 p.m. — An excellent putt by Jordan Spieth after a pair of bogeys to start his day.

12:05 p.m. — It's been a rough day for Cameron Young, who narrowly made the cut but is 6-over through nine holes today. He double-bogeyed No.'s 1 and 7.

11:25 a.m. — Scottie Scheffler is 1-over on the day, bringing him to 6-over for the week. He narrowly made the cut last night to keep his slim hopes alive.

11:20 a.m. — The leaders won't be teeing off until after 3 p.m. ET today, but the top of the leaderboard is so tight that it's very much worth watching anyone at even par or better as the morning turns to afternoon.

11:15 a.m. — The course is playing especially tough today, with only three players under par. The biggest riser? David Puig, who birdied two of his first three holes to move to 2-over.
