AMAZON PRIME MAKES ITS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DEBUT AS LIVERPOOL FANS FUME AT 'RIDICULOUS' NUMBER OF SUBSCRIPTIONS NEEDED TO FOLLOW THEIR TEAM... WHILE OTHERS PRAISE BROADCASTER'S 'ELITE' LIVE COVERAGE

The UEFA Champions League returned on Tuesday night for its 33rd edition since the 1992 rebrand and things were a little different.

For the first time ever, all the teams involved were in one giant league, rather than groups of four.

There was also a new broadcaster on the block, with Amazon Prime having secured the rights to show one blockbuster clash every Tuesday.

Amazon's first pick was Liverpool's away game against fellow Euro giants AC Milan at the San Siro, while TNT Sports were left with the rights to show the rest of this week's Champions League matches live.

There were few complaints about the quality of Amazon's coverage, which was hosted by Gabby Logan, while Frank Lampard, Daniel Sturridge and Clarence Seedorf were among the pundits. Milan legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic made a guest appearance too.

However, multiple fans took to social media to vent their frustration at having to subscribe to yet another TV service to watch their team.

One fan tweeted: 'PSA: I've only just learned that Liverpool are not on TNT tonight, but Amazon Prime.

'Two subscriptions are now required to watch all of the Champions League. Livid, to be honest.'

Another groaned: 'Bit ridiculous the amount of channels football is on. Can't watch Liverpool because they are on Amazon prime….'

A third fan added: 'Going mad searching for the Liverpool Milan game on TNT, turns out it's on Amazon Prime. Luckily I have Amazon but that is utter woke nonsense!'

Amazon Prime costs £8.99 per month, or £95 for an annual subscription.

However, others were quick to praise the broadcaster for their coverage of Liverpool's opening Champions League fixture.

'Football on Amazon Prime is so clear of any other channel. PLEASE get the PL rights at some point', one user wrote.

'Watching Amazon Prime's coverage of the Champions League after years of suffering Rio, Fletch, McManaman & the rest of the BT knuckleheads,' another said.

One said: 'The Champions League on Amazon Prime is an absolute game changer. Shearer on commentary, Frank Lampard & Seedorf on the panel. Gabby Logan leading. Elite line up'.

'Pound for pound. Amazon prime still the best subscription, you get free Amazon delivery, free Prime movies, free Prime live Champions league stream,' another wrote.

A final fan wrote, 'Regardless of the merits of the new format of the Champions League, with live games on Amazon and the Beeb highlights it's definitely going to be more accessible than it has been for years'.

Liverpool won Tuesday's game 3-1 thanks to goals from Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai after Christian Pulisic's early opener.

Amazon will also be showing 20 live Premier League games this season.

TNT Sports will broadcast 52 live Premier League matches during the current campaign, while 128 will be shown live on Sky Sports.
