PGA TOUR STAR BECOMES FIRST PLAYER IN FOUR YEARS TO BREAK 60 WITH INCREDIBLE ROUND

American golfer Cameron Young, 27, has become just the 12th man in PGA Tour history to break 60 in a truly incredible round this weekend.

Young shot a sensational 11-under par on the day at TPC River Highlands' Travelers Championship - being the first man to break 60 in four years and just one shot more than Jim Furyk 's record of 58 - which he did at the same course as Young.

Incredibly, Young is not atop of the leaderboard, after sitting in the middle of the pack coming into Saturday. His 11-under on the day puts him level with Scottie Scheffler in second place as Tom Kim leads with 14-under.

Many had predicted that golfers had an opportunity to post a record score throughout the weekend, with Keegan Bradley winning on an incredible 23-under par last year. However, Young was an unlikely candidate to take on that role.

The American mightily struggled at the US Open last weekend, shooting 14-over par at the major after barely making the cut at the US PGA Championship the month prior.

But Young's performance on Saturday will go down in the history books, becoming the first to shoot 59 since Scheffler did so in 2020.

And perhaps heartbreakingly, Young could have even equaled Furyk's record of 58 - after he missed a seven-foot attempt on the 16th hole that would have seen him match the all-time score.

Speaking after his historic round, Young said: "I didn't really think much about it until the putt went in on 15. Then I hit two really good putts on 16 and 17. And then obviously 18 as well. I didn't think about it too much in the middle of the back nine, all of a sudden everything was going in after 10, 11, 12. Then all of a sudden, I had a putt for 59 on 18 which was a blast."

He added: "It's certainly pretty cool, It's fun to have your name on a list that short. But there's some full tournaments that I probably would rank above it in terms of just like overall achievement. I feel like one day doesn't necessarily warrant like a crowning achievement of a career. It's certainly my high of the month. But, I'm sure I will pretty much try to forget by tomorrow and go through my routine and see what I can do tomorrow."
