UNAI EMERY AGREES NEW ASTON VILLA CONTRACT AS VILLANS FEND OFF INTEREST IN MANAGER

Unai Emery has agreed a contract extension with Aston Villa.

The Spaniard - who had two years left on his contract - has new terms that will keep him at Villa Park until 2027.

Emery has become hot property in the wake of the incredible job he has undertaken at Villa Park. And Villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are keen to protect their investment in him.

Emery took over the Birmingham club when they were on the fringes of the drop zone in November 2022. But since then he has led them to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League and into fourth place in the Premier League.

Villa are now within sight of completing an historic double and Emery is being rewarded with that.

It is understood that recent speculation concerning Emery’s potential defection to a big European club has prompted negotiations starting on the new contract. The owners have acted quickly and have made their intentions clear by tying down the 52-year-old to a fresh deal.

Emery had dismissed rumours linking him with the Bayern Munich job following the win over Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Villa boss was asked about the links to Bayern following the win over the Cherries. And the Spaniard batted them away, responding: "I am focused here, 100 per cent."

Emery had emerged as a serious contender for the Bayern job, with BILD reporting that sporting director Max Eberl is a huge fan of the Spaniard. His candidacy was also backed by Germany legend Lothar Matthaus.

"I would get Unai Emery from Aston Villa. He's doing a great job there. He has a lot of experience - including internationally - and he has titles to his name with Sevilla, for example. He speaks perfect English," Matthaus told Sky Germany.
