MARCUS RASHFORD TOLD 'HE GETS AWAY WITH IT' AT MAN UTD – AND IT MUST CHANGE

Troy Deeney believes Marcus Rashford “gets away” with his behaviour at Manchester United.

The struggling striker has scored just eight times in 40 outings across all competitions this season. That is in stark contrast to his blistering form last campaign, where he netted 30 goals.

Rashford’s sudden drop in quality has led to question marks about his attitude and application. Those fears worsened following an incident where he called in sick for a United training session, having been spotted partying at a Belfast nightclub during the early hours of the morning.

He was reprimanded by manager Erik ten Hag, who dropped the 26-year-old for an FA Cup win against Newport. Now striker-turned-pundit Deeney has highlighted the need for United to support Rashford by surrounding him with “professionals” if they want to bring him back to his best.

Talking to Simon Jordan and Graeme Souness on William Hill's Three Up Front, Deeney said: "[If I were United's manager] I'd have a serious chat with Marcus. I think Marcus Rashford can be who you build a team around but you need to get some bloody good pros around him to hold him accountable.

"Whenever Marcus is in the paper, he delivers and scores. Whenever Marcus is out of the team, he comes in and delivers and scores.

"I think he gets away with it because he is talented and the group knows he's talented. If you had some really good characters and leaders around there, he'd fall back into line very quickly."

Souness disagreed, stating: "I understand why you picked him, because when he's on it he's properly on it. But he's had five years in the first team and he's had two good seasons. That doesn't describe a big player to me."

Rashford’s United future remains unclear as the club could opt to cash in on their former academy star in the summer. Contributing to the uncertainty is also Ten Hag's tenuous position at Old Trafford amid the new Ineos ownership and club hierarchy.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi most notably voiced his admiration for Rashford back in December 2022. The French champions could consider signing Rashford for a reduced transfer fee as a replacement for their star player Kylian Mbappe, who will leave the club this summer.
