MAN UTD'S MISERY COMPOUNDED AS BURNLEY ACHIEVE UNLIKELY OLD TRAFFORD FEAT

Manchester United were forced to settle for a point against Burnley after another damaging outing that will leave supporters and club chiefs questioning the direction of the club.

Erik ten Hag and his players were booed at Old Trafford following the full-time whistle after an uninspiring result. United have won just one of their last six Premier League matches but on this occasion fans saw their side have less possession than their relegation-threatened opponents in damning fashion.

The hosts did take the lead in a back and forth affair as Antony's strike separated the sides after 79 minutes. Andre Onana produced six saves to keep the 13-times Premier League winners in the tie, but it was his foul that saw Zeki Amdouni score a spot kick with just one minute of normal time remaining.

While the result ensures the likes of Newcastle and Chelsea will remain hopeful of usurping United in the Premier League to earn a place in the Europa League, it may not be the most damaging thing to the club's reputation. Numerous times this season, the style of play employed has drawn questions to Ten Hag's approach and United's abilities.

While United's ability concede a vast number of shots has been evident in recent months, still few would suspect they would have less possession at their home ground by a team hoping to stave off relegation. The Red Devils controlled the ball for just 48 per cent of Saturday's game, with Burnley boasting 52 per cent despite playing away from home.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Ten Hag suggested his side dominated long stretches of the game. He said: "We put ourselves in a winning position and over long courses of the game we dominated.

"Only the second part of the first half where we conceded some chances, but the rest of the game was ours. We were in a winning position and we gave it away.

"Every team gives up opportunities," he added. "But, when it is up to us, it is weird. We created loads of chances as well. We are one of the most dynamic and entertaining teams in the league at this moment. We are creating loads of chances by playing good football. it was unnecessary to lose control. We repaired this at half-time and second half was much better."
