MAN UTD NEWS: IVAN TONEY DEALS OUT TRANSFER BLOW AS ERIK TEN HAG URGED TO MAKE CHANGES

Manchester United are preparing for an FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City on Sunday, with Erik ten Hag's side having gone winless in their last four games.

The FA Cup is the only trophy Ten Hag's men can now win this season, with their hopes of finishing in the top four also all but over. Their thoughts are already turning to the summer transfer window where a major overhaul is set to take place.

One of their potential targets is Brentford star Ivan Toney, with United expected to sign a striker this summer. But Toney now appears to have dealt a blow to the Red Devils' hopes of completing a move.

That blow comes as boss Ten Hag was urged to make major changes to his transfer strategy heading into the summer. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United news.

Toney deals out blow

Ivan Toney is reportedly seeking a pay packet that would see him earn more than Bruno Fernandes, dealing a blow to his hopes of joining Manchester United. Toney is expected to leave Brentford this summer, with the Red Devils one of the teams linked with a move.

United are keen to add a new striker to their squad, with boss Erik ten Hag a fan of the 28-year-old. But the Bees star is understood to be seeking a wage in the region of £250,000 per week.

That's £10,000 more per week than Fernandes earns, though the skipper is not United's highest earner. But seeing Toney earn more may frustrate the midfielder, leading to the Red Devils reconsidering their interest in the England international.

Dewsbury-Hall drops transfer hint

Leicester star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall appears to have handed United a boost in their hopes of signing him. The midfielder has starred for the Foxes in their push to be promoted from the Championship.

His performances have drawn the eye of United, with the Englishman having scored 12 goals and notched 13 assists in all competitions. And it seems that the midfielder would welcome an approach from the Red Devils.

A tweet Dewsbury-Hall sent in December 2011, when he was 13 suggests he grew up as a United fan. The tweet, sent on the day United smashed Fulham 5-0, reads: "Come on united! We are looking SO SO good 2-0."

Ten Hag urged to make changes

Former Manchester United star Bastian Schweinsteiger has urged current boss Ten Hag to change his transfer policy. The World Cup winner believes United should look to replicate Liverpool with their success in recruitment.

"Sometimes you spend money completely wrong," he told The Overlap and Sky Bet. "You must adapt to how football is changing or not changing and the easiest example where United should have learned out of it.

"Just look over there [Liverpool]. What did Klopp do? Did he sign a lot of huge money transfers? No. All you need to do is look 45 miles over and see how Liverpool do it and how long they've been dominating for. They are stable, it doesn't have the wave like United does."
