MAN UTD FLOPS AND ERIK TEN HAG BOOED BY OWN FANS AFTER DISASTROUS BURNLEY DRAW

Boos were heard at full time at Old Trafford after Manchester United allowed Burnley to come back and earn a draw.

Erik ten Hag and his stars will know exactly what the home crowd thought of their result as discontent was fired in their direction after the club were left unable to put away their relegation-threatened rivals. United had led through Antony but Andre Onana's costly foul allowed Zeki Amdouni to score from the penalty spot late on.

The draw sees United's season continue to stutter in search of European football but they remain sixth. Newcastle's win over Sheffield United sees them move within a point of the Red Devils.

Ten Hag's future has come under increasing scrutiny since Sir Jim Ratcliffe purchased a 27.7 per cent stake in the club and Saturday's performance will have offered little reassurance. The Dutch boss will have felt little support inside the ground as he also saw his judgement during the game against Burnley booed.

Not for the first time this season, Ten Hag saw the crowd turn on him over a substitution. When it became apparent that Kobbie Mainoo was being replaced the Old Trafford faithful ensured that the manager heard their disapproval.

Following the stalemate, the United chief accepted that his side put themselves in a difficult position. Ten Hag said: "Strong start to the game. Loads of chances then we lost in control in second part of first half.

"Burnley came back in the game and had some chances. Second half was all ours and we are in a winning position and we give the game away at the end.

"Very frustrated, shouldn't happen. You put yourself in difficult positions. Over many phases of the game we did very good so at the end we have to take the three points and the clean sheet. We gave it away again at the end.

"We put ourselves in a winning position by playing some good football - creating loads of chances and then to give it away in the end in the final minutes it's so unnecessary."
