LIVERPOOL TRANSFER NEWS AS GONçALO INáCIO STANCE EMERGES AMID RACE FOR 23-GOAL STRIKER

With the season quickly drawing to a close, a new era beckons at Liverpool. Soon, Jürgen Klopp will bid farewell, and it seems Arne Slot will be the man to take over.

The Feyenoord boss has all but confirmed his appointment in recent days, and he’s already keeping an eye on the Reds ahead of next season. No doubt he will be making some plans ahead of the transfer window opening.

That could include outgoings as well as incomings. There has been plenty of speculation over the future of Darwin Núñez in recent days, with the Uruguay international seemingly unhappy after deleting all of his Liverpool-related pictures from Instagram.

But there’s no doubt Liverpool will need to make some new signings in the summer, and the latest reports suggest the Reds may be interested in a new forward, while Gonçalo Inácio appears to be keen on a move to England. Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Gonçalo Inácio (Sporting CP)

Liverpool is leading the race for Gonçalo Inácio this summer, according to Caught Offside. Manchester United and Newcastle are also said to be in the running, with the Reds planning to try and negotiate a deal in the coming months.

What’s more, Inácio is said to want to continue his career in the Premier League. Sporting CP is reportedly demanding around $65m (£52m/€60m) for the 22-year-old defender’s services.

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool is in need of some reinforcements in defense this summer, and a left-footed central defender who can also cover at left-back would fit the bill nicely. Inácio ticks those boxes, and the fee mentioned isn’t exactly breaking the bank for a player of his age, so it would appear to be well within Liverpool’s reach.

If it is a race between Liverpool, United and Newcastle, then there should surely only be one winner. If anything, Newcastle should probably be ahead of United, given there is much more certainty at St James’ Park than Old Trafford right now.

Mohamed Amoura (Union SG)

Liverpool is among a host of clubs interested in Union SG forward Mohamed Amoura, according to L’Equipe. The Reds came up against the Algerian international during the group stages of this season’s Europa League, with Amoura scoring and registering an assist in his side’s 2-1 win in Belgium.

The report claims Brighton also wants to sign the 23-year-old, who has 23 goals and seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions this season.

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool should be on the lookout for some new forward options this summer, and Amoura did impress against the Reds in Europe. Still, is he really the man they should be going after? It would be a risk going for a player from the Belgian league, and you suspect Liverpool might want to go for someone with a bit more pedigree.
