LIVERPOOL TRANSFER NEWS AS FáBIO CARVALHO 'WANTED' AND CHELSEA COULD BID $64M FOR 'TARGET'

Liverpool has not confirmed anything with Arne Slot ahead of the summer and there is still work to be done to determine and finalize who the best candidate available is to succeed Jurgen Klopp, but the Dutchman is high up on the shortlist.

FSG got Michael Edwards in and Richard Hughes has become the new Liverpool sporting director. Once a head coach has been sorted out, the Reds will be in a position to focus on the next priorities.

One of those has to be tying down Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to new contracts. The trio will only have 12 months left on their deals at the end of the season. But then there is also a need to look at what moves could be made in the transfer market.

It is unlikely to be as busy a summer as it was last year for Liverpool but there could be some alterations required. A defender would seem like a logical target. Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including a couple of midfield players.

Fábio Carvalho (Liverpool)

Hull City has expressed an interest in signing Liverpool playmaker Fábio Carvalho this summer, according to The Athletic. The 21-year-old has been on loan at the Tigers since January and has impressed while away.

The report goes on to state that despite the interest, Liverpool is unlikely to sanction a permanent sale this summer. Carvalho has eight goals across his last 11 appearances in the Championship, which could lead to Jürgen Klopp's successor re-assessing his future at Anfield after the 2023/24 season.

Hull chairman Tan Kesler has been vocal about his admiration for the Liverpool loanee and how the club pushed for the signing earlier in the year. "In this business, how fast you get information is key," Kesler told iNews.

"We monitor the German market closely and getting that information first gave us a competitive advantage but convincing players like Fábio isn’t easy. Even his agent, who is a great friend of ours, was shocked at our approach for him. He said: ‘Can you afford him?’ I said it’s not a matter of affording him, we want him so much we’re going to clear the budget for him."

Liverpool.com says: Given his form in the Championship, it would be nonsensical for Liverpool not to take a look at Carvalho this summer. He has shown he is capable of playing at the level across previous seasons and could flourish after the added experience at Hull.

Teun Koopmeiners (Atalanta)

Chelsea is set to bid around $64m (£51m/€60m) for the signature of Atalanta midfield star Teun Koopmeiners, according to Give Me Sport. The Stamford Bridge side supposedly scouted him during the Italian side's recent Europa League tie with Liverpool.

A recent report from La Gazzetta Dello Sport suggested that the Reds were keen on signing the 25-year-old, while Juventus is also taking a look at him ahead of the summer. The links are only likely to increase should Arne Slot move to Anfield because he worked with Koopmeiners while at AZ Alkmaar.

Liverpool.com says: Koopmeiners is a very good player but is that sort of midfielder a priority for Liverpool? It would seem unlikely that was the case. A center-back is the biggest thing to sort this summer and then perhaps a holding midfielder.
