LIVERPOOL INSERT ANOTHER TRANSFER CLAUSE IN FABIO CARVALHO EXIT DAYS AFTER TOTTENHAM WINDFALL

Liverpool will land themselves 17.5 percent of any future Fabio Carvalho sale after his move to Brentford.

The Reds have allowed the playmaker to leave after two years at Anfield, during which he failed to establish himself as a starter, forcing him out on loan. Carvalho has now returned to west London, where he played previously for Fulham, signing for an initial £22.5million.

Liverpool could earn a further £5m in add-ons and they've also ensured they will profit from any future move. A healthy percentage will see them land nearly a fifth of Carvalho's future value with Brentford proving themselves capable of signing players and selling them on for big fees.

Carvalho has been tipped for big things, excelling at Fulham when they won promotion from the Championship. His development has stalled on Merseyside and he had spells at RB Leipzig and then Hull, scoring nine times in the second tier for the Tigers last term.

Liverpool have long been smart in the market, especially when it comes to player sales. Not only have they commanded big fees for those they let go, they've also been able to profit from players they've sold on.

Dominic Solanke's move to Tottenham this week, which saw the north Londoners pay more than £60m, has earned Liverpool a tidy sum. They sanctioned his move to Bournemouth back in 2019 and have landed £7.2m - which could rise to £9.2m - after his move.

Thomas Frank was buoyed by the arrival of Carvalho, who is set to offer Brentford plenty of flexibility with the manager praising his versatility and potential.

He told the club’s website: “Fabio is a player with a lot of qualities. He can play in all of the front three or four positions in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. His best position is probably as a number 10 or coming in from the left.

“Offensively, he has great abilities on the ball: he can go past players, slide a pass, create chances and get on the end of chances. He’s a type of player that we don’t have many of in the squad so he will add that something extra for us.

“His ability and mentality to work hard in the pressure is also very, very good. That’s along with him ticking all the boxes from a cultural perspective and being the right character. So we’re very pleased to see him come in and push the team forward.”
