JUDE BELLINGHAM WARNED OVER ENGLAND BEHAVIOUR – 'IF IT HAPPENED, IT'S NOT A GOOD THING'

Former England international Wes Brown has warned Jude Bellingham over the alleged outburst he had at Gareth Southgate.

It was reported earlier this week that Bellingham had an angry exchange with Southgate around the hour mark during the Euro 2024 final as he supposedly "lost it" when the manager as hesistating over making any substitutions. England went in level with Spain at half time in the final but found themselves trailing just 69 seconds after the restart after Nico Williams fired low past Jordan Pickford.

Cole Palmer, who came on in the final 20 minutes, smashed in the equaliser for England to give the country hope, before one of Spain's subs - Mikel Oyarzabal - scored an 86th minute winner to secure the Euros trophy. According to ESPN, Bellingham's outburst stemmed from Southgate's refusal to make changes earlier when the team was struggling in the game.

While this argument is alleged to have happened, former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has noted that if this is true, then conversations need to be had internally to avoid any disrespect - despite Southgate stepping down from his role.

Speaking on Reach's Euro Thrash podcast - which you can find on YouTube, Apple and Spotify - Brown said: "If that is true, then that is disrespecting the manager a little bit. Players do frustration in different ways. I am sure he is a nice guy and has all the respect for the manager, but if that did happen, that is not a good thing for the team or the manager.

"That is something that would have to be talked about internally. I honestly do think the players do have a high regard for the manager, but when players get frustrated, things can happen. I’m sure if it did happen, they would have talked about it afterwards."

Southgate stepped down from his role as England manager on Tuesday after 102 games in charge following their second Euros final defeat in a row. While Southgate had taken England to two finals, and deep into two World Cup tournaments, Brown has claimed that the next manager needs "to have won something" in their career.

The former United star said: "Let’s look at Southgate before he became England manager, he has not won anything. He had no major trophies at club level anywhere. But still, he got back-to-back finals.

"In general, for the national team, especially for England, it has got to be someone who has won, has a winning mentality and knows how to do it. The only thing Gareth missed out on is that experience."

There have been reports that The FA is willing to wait for Pep Guardiola to become the next manager, while Newcastle United gaffer Eddie Howe is the bookies' favourite right now to replace Southgate. England Under-21s manager Lee Carsley is also in the running for the job, with Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino also candidates.

Brown also noted that the country had expected more from their star players like Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden. And he claimed that the "side passes" and lack of breaking through Spain's defence is where the problems came from. He added: "We expected more from Foden, Bellingham or Saka. They weren’t creating much and nobody else is going to do it, that is where the problem comes.

"We do these little side passes, we don’t break the lines too often. It is always when we go 1-0 down that we step up a level, so it’s a shame that we did not do that from the beginning."
