JADON SANCHO MAKES CLEAR HIS REASONS FOR SWAPPING MAN UTD FOR CHELSEA ON DEADLINE DAY

Jadon Sancho pointed to his upbringing in London when explaining his decision to move to Chelsea on transfer deadline day.

The England international joined the Blues from Manchester United on an initial loan deal. The 24-year-old will make a permanent move next summer, with Chelsea confirming they have an obligation to make the move permanent.

"I’m really excited to be here. London is where I grew up and I’m happy to be back," Sancho said. "The manager spoke to me about the project and, for a young player, it's exciting. Hopefully I can bring goals and assists to the Bridge."

Sancho joined previous club United for £73million on 2021. However, his permanent switch to Chelsea will come at a fraction of that cost.

Born in Camberwell in South London, Sancho began his career in Watford's academy before joining Manchester City as a teenager. He left England without playing a senior game, though, making his professional debut with Borussia Dortmund.

His form in Germany prompted United to break the bank, but his form in the Premier League never reached those same heights. He returned to Dortmund on loan last season after falling out with United manager Erik ten Hag, and now appears to have played his final game for the Manchester club.

Sancho's arrival rounds off another busy summer for Chelsea. An outlay of more than £200m saw the likes of Joao Felix, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall move to Stamford Bridge, while Conor Gallagher and Romelu Lukaku were among those to make permanent exits.

Sancho's arrival, completed late in the transfer window and announced after it shut, follows Raheem Sterling's departure on loan. The former Manchester City star was told by manager Enzo Maresca that he would struggle for minutes this season, and will spend the current campaign at Arsenal after rejecting a big-money Saudi offer.

Arsenal drew 1-1 with Brighton on Saturday without Sterling, who was signed too late to feature. After the game, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta spoke about the new arrival.

"Yes, we’ll have to see and speak to him on what he’s been doing and how he’s feeling about it," Arteta told reporters. "We have to try to find quick wins to get him up to speed as quick as possible and him understanding what we are looking for from him and the dynamics of the team. We will use this time to do that and as soon as possible, get him involved."
