CHELSEA PULL PLUG ON LAST-MINUTE TRANSFER AFTER PREMIER LEAGUE RAISE CONCERNS

Chelsea shelved plans to transfer Deivid Washington to sister club Strasbourg after concerns were raised by the Premier League and FIFA, it has been claimed.

It emerged in the final days of the summer transfer window that there was a possibility that Washington, 19, could be sold to Strasbourg - another club owned by BlueCo - for a €21 million (£17.7m) fee.

Talk of the potential deal raised eyebrows given the young Brazilian forward had only made three appearances for the Blues since joining them in a €16m (£13.5m) switch last summer.

However, Chelsea decided to pull the plug on the deal - and a new report believes that is due to scrutiny from both the Premier League and the game's governing body, FIFA.

ESPN claim that Washington was ready to undergo a medical in London before the plug was pulled on the deal after concerns were raised by the aforementioned organisations.

The report adds that a similar deal between the two clubs for Diego Moreira, who moved to France earlier this summer, is already being reviewed by both the Premier League and FIFA.

Washington will remain at Stamford Bridge until January at least alongside a number of other players who are not expected to feature under head coach Enzo Maresca, who revealed last week that he was working with a core group of around 21 players.

While Washington didn't get his move to France in the end, Chelsea were active on deadline day and they managed to seal a deal to bring Jadon Sancho to Stamford Bridge just before the summer window shut.

The Manchester United winger, 24, joins the Blues on loan for the rest of the season with an obligation to make the move permanent next summer for a fee of around £24million. The deal was finally confirmed on Saturday evening - and Sancho couldn't hide his delight at sealing a move back to London after growing up in Camberwell.

"I’m really excited to be here. London is where I grew up and I’m happy to be back," Sancho said after being unveiled as a new Chelsea player. "The manager spoke to me about the project and, for a young player, it's exciting. Hopefully I can bring goals and assists to the Bridge."
