CARABAO CUP FIRST ROUND DRAW IN FULL AS EFL CLUBS INCLUDING LEEDS AND WREXHAM LEARN FATE
Leeds will take on Championship rivals Middlesbrough as one of the standout fixtures from the first round of the Carabao Cup.
The draw for the opening round of the competition took place on Thursday morning. Teams in the Championship, League One and League Two enter the competition at this stage - with the exception of Burnley and Luton following their relegations from the Premier League.
Top-flight clubs do not enter the Carabao Cup until the second round, with those in Europe joining the party in round three. Liverpool won the competition last season after beating Chelsea at Wembley - Virgil van Dijk scoring the winning goal.
The Reds will be aiming to defend their crown this campaign. In the meantime, clubs have found out their opening fixtures.
First-round games will take place the week commencing 12 August. The draw for the first round was regionalised with teams separated into a Northern and Southern Section.
Among the higlights, Leeds will take on Middlesbrough at Elland Road. Welsh side Wrexham have been drawn to face recently relegated Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, while Portsmouth have been matched up against Millwall.
Derby County don't have to travel too far as they take on Chesterfield. Finally, 2011 winners Birmingham travel to Charlton.
