ANTHONY GORDON SEES TRUE FEELINGS ON LIVERPOOL LEAKED AFTER 'PRIVATE CHAT' IN ENGLAND CAMP

Anthony Gordon discussed a potential move to Liverpool with his England team-mates.

The Newcastle winger was subject to interest from the Reds - whom he supported as a boy - in June amid the Magpies' struggles to adhere to Premier League PSR rules. Gordon was offered to Liverpool as Toon chiefs sought to solve their financial deficit issues in a bid to escape a potential points deduction.

Newcastle ultimately balanced their books with other deals before the start of July, as young duo Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson moved to Brighton and Nottingham Forest respectively.

But Gordon - who is currently on England duty at Euro 2024 - wanted the move to Liverpool after just a year and a half at St James' Park and was openly discussing it with his international team-mates, according to Telegraph Sport.

Liverpool never made an official bid for the 23-year-old, currently on Three Lions duty at Euro 2024, and discussions over a deal were understood to not have reached a level that would've seen Newcastle end their PSR issues alone. They would have still had to sell another.

A big play was made from outside the two clubs about both Liverpool's interest and Newcastle's desire to do a deal, with Gordon low down the list of players the Magpies were happy to get ride of. They duly landed £33million for Minteh and £35million for Anderson to solve their financial problem.

Whether it is a move that rears its head again in the future is questionable. Having been named Newcastle's player of the season this past campaign, the Premier League club would not entertain selling him on the cheap. And when Gordon returns to Newcastle, the club will look to make sure he's settled, with a new contract potentially in the offing.

Gordon has made just one appearance at the Euros this summer in what was a one-minute cameo in the 0-0 draw against Slovenia.

The services of the pacy winger has been called on by many fans who've suggested Gordon start ahead of Phil Foden on the left flank due to his directness and danger he causes in his favoured position.
